It's normal for marriages to have difficult periods from time to time, and that is okay because Allah ta 'ala has provided us with all the resources that we need to overcome them. For this reason, we require pre-marital counseling for all individuals who intend to tie the knot at Masjid al-Mumin of Pittsburgh. The purpose of this pre-marital counseling is to help identify any issues and discrepancies between the prospective couple that may become a source of conflict later.
Sometimes, this is not the initial move for some couples. They wait until after getting married to realize that they need counseling. Unfortunately, by this time, some think that things have progressed too far to be fixed and harp on the divorce wagon. The feeling of failure and embarrassment creeps up and seeking marital counseling is thrown to the side. It's true, that marriage counseling can be at first unsettling and frightening. However, you will see the value of marriage counseling the more you both are driven to keep your marriage intact.
To determine a course of action that will prevent the marriage from ending in divorce, the goal of marital counseling is to discover any underlying issues and deal with them practically from an Islamic position. This will require us to ask the uncomfortable questions for us to dig deep. This is only to help bring to the surface what has been preventing you as a couple from moving forward.
Regretfully, divorce is not always avoidable.
