The Etiquettes of Jumu'ah

Acts of virtue on the best day of the week, Jumu'ah (Friday)

  • Make ghusl, wear clean clothes, wear musk
  • Read Suratul Kahf Chapter 18 in the Holy Quran.
  • Send abundant prayers upon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
  • Come to prayer before the iqamah is called to be counted among those who attended.
  • Turn your cell phones off or put on silent.
  • No eating nor drinking while the Khateeb gives the sermon, talking while the khateeb gives the sermon and telling someone else to be quiet will nullify your Jumu'ah.
  • Sit in a straight row towards the Khateeb while listening quietly to the Khutbah (the first row is the best rank).

The Jumu'ah prayer consists of two parts:

The first part consist of a sermon given by the Khateeb (usually the Imam) while you sit quietly and listen attentively.

The second part is the praying of a two Rak'at salat that replace the usual Mid-day prayer, Dhur. This is performed immediately after the sermon.

Muslim men are required to attend Jumu'ah, they are excused if they are sick or on a journey.

Jumu'ah Services are held every Friday @1:30 pm EST
